The Rum Distillery

It’s bitterly cold, windy and wet; not the type of weather that we are likely to sail in. At a loss for the day, we took advantage of the hire car ($35 / day) and became tourists. Unfortunately we didn’t get to the Bert Hinkler Museum but we did visit the Rum Distillery (certainly worth one visit) before going out to Baltimores for dinner. Those of you familiar with this establishment will be interested and possibly a little saddened to know that it has changed. The old wooden chairs engraved with the names of boats have been replaced by modern black vinyl chairs and most of the burgees have disappeared from the walls. The “Yachtie’s Special” of fish and chips for $10 was still remarkably good and the new owners are very pleasant. By the way, it is on the market.

In a day or so we will set off again; destination Pancake Creek .

addit: just heard that Wednesday was the coldest day in Bundaberg's history
