After a gentle sail from Rosslyn Bay, Anthony anchored “Grace” at picturesque Wreck Bay on the eastern side of Great Keppel Island (GKI). It is more rugged than most of the other anchorages at GKI and can only be visited when the wind blows from the west. We enjoyed an endless supply of food, prepared by Vicki, a spot of fishing and coral viewing. Some of the more adventurous (substitute ‘southerners’) chose to snorkel. The Queenslanders in the group didn’t. Instead we used bathyscopes* to view the coral from a drifting dinghy. For those of you who know Anthony and Vicki you will be pleased to see how hard they are working (pictured above). If you or anyone you know plans to visit the Keppels and would like a day on the water, without being a part of a large group of tourists, be sure to book a day out on “Grace”. I will be adding a link to their website, “Sail Capricornia” shortly.
* a clever device, somewhat triangular in shape, about a metre long with a transparent base which is about ½ metre wide. When the base is immersed in water you can peer through it and see the coral.
